ILOILO: The First Virtual Arcade Zone, blew my mind!

Have you ever tried something in your life that blew your mind? Well, I did! Here’s how the story goes, I was in Plazuela de Iloilo the other day with some friends, and one of them suddenly started talking about the coolest VR arcade in town. They told me its’ all over the social media specifically in Facebook and its’ new. Well for me, Virtual Reality (VR) was some techy trend I’ve discovered over the net. I knew there were VR mobiles sold online but then it was too pricey for most of us to avail. I guess putting up an actual VR Arcade is one brilliant idea, a lot of people can now try and experience it. Out of curiosity and excitement (I’ve always wanted to try one!), I decided to check what the buzz was all about. I arrived just as they opened, that was around 12 noon to be exact. I felt lucky that day since I was one of the many people who got in first, the line was a bit long so I guess the rest of guys in line had to wait an hour for their turn.

And so the journey begins, I had to write my name on their registration form, picked my desired time limit (149PHP for 15 min. , 289 PHP for 30 min. and 499 for 1 hour) at their front desk, then they guided me into a dark room in which I’ve heard  they call the “portal”. They attached the VR Headset on my head, it was so comfy, I adjusted the device to fit my head tight enough and so the visuals became clearer and not blurry. The VR headset, essentially blindfolded me and transported me in to this entire different world! Astonishing! Like “BAM”! Once I was “inside” a whole new universe appeared right before my eyes! INFINITUM VR headsets replaced my entire reality, I was immersed in a new world with nothing left from the real world. The word “WOW” is definitely understatement! The VR headset totally tricked my brain, the whole experience was mind blowing!

INFINITUM is the first and the only Virtual Reality Zone in the country! I’ve discovered that the concept of developing this amusing arcade zone came from three siblings namely, Dominic Genson, Bea Genson, Bryan Genson and Christian Go. As an Ilonggo I am very proud that they chose Iloilo City as their testing ground, I mean Hello! We now hold the first City in the Philippines to have lay concrete way for future Virtual Reality Arcades! I strongly suggest Travel agencies to start including this in their itinerary. INFINITUM can surely boost Iloilo’s Tourism. I’m sure even the citizens from Manila would have their mind blown once they’ve experience this. As I was conversing with one of the owners, it was mentioned that Corporate Team Building is popular here plus they also offer Birthday Mobile/ Barkada Nights/ University Packages for 3,000PHP minimum of 3 hours for Iloilo Citizens only. Also they mentioned that they are planning to expand in Manila due to the insistent demand by last year’s Holiday visitors.

Arcade Games I tried

TheBlu, was one of Infinitum’s educational experiential game. It was highly-recommended and so I tried it first. I have tried about 4 game series with the HTC Vive VR headset, and the most Jaw dropping so far is theBlu. This experience was pretty dang awesome. I love the part where I had an awesome encounter with a sea turtle and massive swarm of jelly fish. TheBlu immersed me deep in the ocean, it was so real that if I was still a student I would have fun discovering, exploring and learning about marine life. Imagine if schools introduce this kind of education to the younger generation? Whew! What an awesome time to be alive!

The Picture above is JP Yap trying to survive the zombie apocalypse in the BrookHaven Experiment Series.

The BrookHaven Experiment

Wondering why it’s not me on the picture? That’s because the BrookHaven Experiment was the next game introduced to me, I’ve heard that it’s the bestselling game here. Yes! I have to agree with that.  There was no descent picture taken during my turn since all I did was to do random unnecessary movements and scream my heart out. It was so real, the environment was heart pounding, I almost fainted; the sounds had my hands iced cold due to fear in an instant.

Rounds usually last from one minute to as long as the gamer can survive, however I wasn’t even able to last a minute since I ended up closing my eyes after 30 seconds and has been shooting spaces in the virtual world due to fear and panic, and to cut the story short, I died in the game. The BrookHaven Experiment gave me the screaming of my life! Note: Definitely not for the faint Hearted!!!

For your reference I thought of listing down some important details about the first and the Coolest VR Arcade in the Philippines!

Wow! How cool is this! There’s a theme park in Australia who has recently made a roller coaster with VR – it’s had teething problems but it sounds awesome!
